Now that you’re planning your trip to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, you might be wondering if you can bring your own food and drinks into the park. The “short answer” is that outside food and drinks are generally not permitted inside Dollywood theme park. But Don’t worry though, you can still bring some snacks and drinks into the park.

What types of food and drinks can I take into Dollywood?

Even though you can’t take full meals into Dollywood, you are allowed to take small, individually packed snacks and bottled water or reusable water bottles. You do not need to go and buy the pre packaged small bags of chips or cookies ( though you certainly can, to save you packing time ) You can pack all of your snacks in sandwich sized zip lock bags.

Tips For Packing Food and Drinks.

Pack Easy To Eat Snacks

Since Dollywood does not allow coolers, it’s a good idea to pack snacks that don’t need to be kept cold. Trail mix, granola bars, and chips are all good options. If you are going in the hotter months, get snacks that don’t have chocolate, or you will end up with a melted mess. If you have a Baby or toddler, remember to pack snacks for them too, like baby food pouches for easy feedings and baby puffs cereal snacks or cheerios.

Consider Your Storage Options

If you are taking snacks/drinks into the park, make sure you have a place to store them while you’re on rides/attractions. If you have small kiddos, take your stroller! you can keep the backpack full of snacks at the bottom of the stroller. You have the option of renting a locker too. If you don’t have small kids that need a stroller anymore, another option is to leave a cooler in your car and take breaks through the day to go get snacks as needed, though this might not be the best option if you are going in the summer seasons.

How to keep drinks cold while at Dollywood?

Freeze Water Bottles Overnight

If you plan to bring water bottles into the park, freeze them overnight! they will slowly start to unfreeze and stay cold throughout the day. ( and they also act as a cold pack for any snacks you bring that you might prefer to eat cold.)

Use Insulated Bags

If you have a small insulated bag , use it to keep your snacks/drinks cool. You should add frozen gel packs or ice packs to make sure they stay cool longer.

Can you refill water bottles at Dollywood?

Yes! Dollywood has many water fountains throughout the park where you can refill your water bottle for free! This is a great way to stay hydrated without having to buy drinks all day. If you can, be sure to bring a refillable water bottle with you. Its an easier option than having to refill plastic water bottles.

Bringing food and drinks vs purchasing in Dollywood.

Cost

One of the biggest benefits of bringing your own snacks and drinks to Dollywood is that it can help you save money. Buying snacks and drinks inside the park can add up quickly, especially if your kids are snack monsters like mine. You should pack a backpack full of little bags of snacks like chips, trail mix, baby food pouches, pretzels, PB&J or any sandwich you like. ( if you take sandwiches, remember to take ice packs or frozen water bottles to keep them from going bad before you eat them. )

Convenience

Even though bringing your own snacks/drinks can save you money, it can be convenient to buy them in the park. When you bring your own food, you’ll need to carry it with you all day. You’ll also need to find a place to store your snacks while you go on rides/ attractions. If you buy your food inside the park, you won’t need to worry about carrying it with you through the day. And obviously park snacks always taste better, ( don’t get me started on their famous Cinnamon Bread! ).

Variety

Even though you can bring your own snacks, you may be limited in terms of variety. You only have what you took. Dollywood has a variety of options, like quick service restaurants, sit down restaurants, and snack carts. If you have picky eaters with you, that won’t eat that snack because ” the bag is green, and I only like the orange bag “ ( haven’t we all been there? ), then it’s best if you take the snacks they will absolutely eat and avoid any meltdowns or having to leave the park earlier than planned.

Alternatives to bringing food and drinks to Dollywood.

Free cups of ice water are given at all food outlets, you just need to go and ask. You always have the option to buy snacks, meals and drinks at any of the many restaurants or food carts in the park. If you are planning on buying them in the park, remember to take in consideration the prices and what you will spend. You will probably end up spending more if you buy snacks and drinks in the parks.

What we like to do is take our own snacks and refillable water cups, and then the kids get to choose one or two snacks to try that day in the park. It’s fun for them to try something different, but you also save money from taking your own snacks.

are coolers or big bags to carry food and drinks allowed in Dollywood?

Dollywood does not allow guests to bring coolers or large bags into the park. Backpacks, diaper bags & purses are ok. If you plan to bring snacks/drinks into the park, it’s a good idea to pack them in a backpack or insulated bag that can be stored under a stroller or locker.
